THRENODY : The legend of the 9th Symphony
THRENODY is a roguelite action‑adventure featuring procedurally generated levels, Paper Mario like graphics and innovative wand‑based combat controlled entirely with your mouse.
Driven mad by the disappearance of his wife, who was never supposed to leave, on an island where music reigns supreme and suffering does not exist, Célestin attempts to invoke the curse of the Ninth Symphony to finally find peace. Help him gather the instruments created by his beloved in the labyrinthine depths of his island ravaged by the curse.
HOW TO PLAY :
- Use the Tombs to teleport to different procedural generated levels and try to find all 9 lost instruments scattered across the land
- Move with WASD and attack using your wand by clicking and holding the Left Mouse Button
- Use the Arrow Keys Up/Left/Right/Down for the Melody Mini Game when you get an Instrument.

(a sum up of the) BACKGROUND STORY :
On the island called Threnody, music is magical and accompanies the daily lives of all its inhabitants. Harmony and Célestin are lovers protected by the island's magic. She crafts instruments for his symphonies, and he is a renowned composer. As time passed, everything seemed to be going well, but Harmony breathed her last breath, breaking the laws of the island: she should have died at the same time as Célestin. Alone and grief-stricken, he was unable to take his own life, protected by the island's magic. She shouldn't have died! If only she hadn't put so much heart into her work, perhaps she could have kept some of it for herself. The only way for Celestin to join his love seems to be to compose his ninth symphony. But how can he complete his work without his muse? They say he plays the first few bars of his funeral symphony over and over again and that he has gone mad. If only someone could help him.
GMTK2025 Theme: LOOP
We applied the GMTK Jam 2025 theme "Loop" in multiple ways:
- Gameplay: is a roguelite with procedurally generated levels, the essence of loop gameplay. Also, our main combat mechanic is about drawing lines and curves on the screen.
- Story: It speaks of union, generally represented by rings, of the cycle of life, of routine and madness, that of Célestin, who literally “goes round in circles”.
- Art: Everything is also designed around the loop. From the most obvious elements, such as looping animations or repeating textures, to more subtle details, such as the colorful progression that loops on the color wheel.
- Audio and Music: Everything has been designed so that the player is the main actor. Existing as a vector for understanding the story and the moment, the elements loop on different scales, across the game, a level, a moment, or an action.

Looks great and I love the sound design, especially the idea of the piano when the player is walking. The piano gets a bit repetitive, but maybe it could just fade in and out a piano version of the theme playing to overlay it when walking.
Very gorgeous game! I love how everything feels very harmonious, the aesthetic along with the audio environment. Well thought game and creative. Thank you for this x Gameplay was pretty smooth for me overall :)
Interesting game, like the mood. The fighting with the mouse works quite well, but I didn't get what to do with the blue violine - it always breaks up.
Thank you! When you reach the Violine, you will need to press the Arrow Keys on your keyboard in a specific order. Hope it helps 😊
woah, you put a lot of thought into this world, and beautiful!
